It looks like Donald Trump will definitely lose the Light Bulb War-Mother Jones

Do you think the democratic war is overshadowed by the urgency it demands? I do not. This is what I said in "What if the media reported a democratic war like an actual war?" When we started our annual fundraising event in December. There is a lot to do and a lot of work to be done in 2022, so I hope you can read my post and be inspired to support Mother Jones’s tough journalism work and help us achieve our always pressing one-year goal of $350,000 -A gift that ends today.

Do you think the democratic war is overshadowed by the urgency it demands? Neither do we, and that’s why we hope you can support Mom Jones’ non-profit journalism and help us with today’s year-end donation to help us achieve the always pressing goal of $350,000 in December.

The Biden administration has taken action to reverse one of Donald Trump's more unusual goals in the culture war during his presidency of the United States: the plunder of the humble light bulb.

The Ministry of Energy has proposed new standards for the energy efficiency of light bulbs, which has fundamentally eliminated the era of old incandescent lamp technology and switched to LED lighting.

According to the American Council for Energy Conservation Economics, the lack of light bulb regulations can help exacerbate the climate crisis and waste household money. The organization found that the use of wasted incandescent lamps cost Americans nearly $300 million a month in unnecessary electricity bills and released 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide during the life of inefficient light bulbs sold each month.

However, Trump was not fascinated by LED lights when he was in the White House. The twice impeached president said that he “looks better under incandescent lights than these crazy lights” and complained in 2019 that he “always looks orange” under LED lights. He claimed that if LEDs break, they will become "hazardous waste sites" and "very dangerous to all gases."

Trump also used his position at the pinnacle of global power to express anger at the toilet. He said that the toilet needs to be flushed "10 times, 15 times, not once." He vowed to bring back the old light bulbs. The apprentice host allowed Americans to "continue to decorate your house with any lights you want."

Trump's Department of Energy followed this approach and blocked a rule that would lead to the phasing out of incandescent light bulbs. The government stated that the move will save consumers money and eliminate unnecessary government inferences in the market.

However, the US Department of Energy has always found that installing LED bulbs in lamps can save people hundreds of dollars over the life of the bulbs. Although LEDs are traditionally more expensive than incandescent lamps based on technology designed by Thomas Edison, their cost has fallen by nearly 90% in the past decade.

Incandescent bulbs still account for about one-third of all bulb sales in the United States. The U.S. Department of Energy stated that the new standard will reduce 222 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in the next 30 years after a period of public review. Save nearly 3 billion US dollars in net cost.

The new standard will be implemented in a staggered manner after lobbying by manufacturers, however, this may lead to further sales of incandescent lamps for several years. Steven Nadell, executive director of the US Energy Conservation Economics Council, said: "This development is welcome news for consumers and the planet, but the government's action here does not urgently need to solve the climate crisis."

Andrew deLaski, Executive Director of the Appliance Standards Awareness Project, added: “Now is the time to complete this work. Manufacturers have been given additional years after the deadline set by Congress to sell light bulbs with short lifespans and waste a lot of energy. . Now they are fighting for more. The department needs to remember that any extra time and compliance flexibility it spends comes at the expense of consumers and the climate."

Last year, we were closer than ever to an overturned election. This is the big story now: we may really lose our democracy. It's best for reporters to start yelling from the roof-because we can also help save it.

Something light, right? Mother Jones is not afraid to say that we are part of this fight, as Monica Bowerlein wrote in her dismantling of the democratic war, and how MoJo must help those who try to use what we have in 2022 All of the people who came to destroy it glowed.

But we need your help to do this: December is the most important month of the year because it brings in donations that drive our report, and we have an urgent goal of raising 350,000 online by December 31 Dollar. If you can now, please join your fellow readers and support our non-profit journalism with a year-end donation today.
