The UK regions where people live the longest have been revealed, with London, Surrey and Kent among the top 10.

According to research conducted by care home company, Lottie, there are 237 people aged 110 or above (supercentenarian) around the country. In order to uncover the findings, Lottie utilised data from the United Nations' Population Dynamics to learn more about the population estimates of people who are aged 100 and over.

While the average UK life expectancy is 81 years, London leads the way with 25 seniors who have an average age of 110.8. Meanwhile, Surrey has 16 supercentenarians and an average age of 110.6. Beautiful Kent, home to award-winning coastlines, has 10 people aged 110 and above and an average age of 111.2.

People around the world are generally living longer, thanks to improvements in quality of life, sanitation, nutrition, and access to healthcare facilities. Interestingly, researchers found that just over 19% of UK centenarians in 2020 were male, with almost 81% female.

"As of 2020, there were estimated to be 15,834 people aged 100 or above in the UK, representing 0.02% of the population," the team at Lottie say. "In the past two decades, there has been a 58% increase in the number of UK centenarians. However, according to ONS research, life expectancy in the UK for men has fallen for the first time in four decades, to 79 years, whereas female life expectancy has remained largely unchanged, at 83."
